Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys emerged from Sheffield as early pioneers of the internet age, gaining notoriety through fan-shared demos and MySpace before releasing their record-breaking debut.
Their early sound was characterized by frantic, high-energy garage punk and Alex Turner's sharp, observational lyricism documenting working-class nightlife. Over time, the band shifted from these raucous indie anthems toward more experimental territories. They explored darker, desert-rock tones on Humbug, produced in part by Josh Homme, and later embraced the swagger of arena rock on AM. Their most recent work sees them transforming into a debonair lounge act, incorporating orchestral arrangements, falsetto vocals, and surrealist themes of space and espionage. Throughout these evolutions, the band is anchored by Matt Helders' propulsive drumming and Turner's transition from a bratty youth to a sophisticated crooner.
