Khruangbin
Khruangbin is a Houston based trio consisting of Laura Lee, Mark Speer, and Donald "DJ" Johnson.
The group creates a distinctive, largely instrumental sound that functions as a global tapestry, blending psychedelic rock, funk, and soul with international influences including Thai rock, Iranian pop, and dub. Their music is defined by a combination of crisp drum breaks, sparse finger picked bass, and melodic guitar work, often recorded in a remote Texas barn to maintain a focused atmosphere. Beyond their own recordings, the band acts as curators of world music through their Air Khruang project, sharing obscure international finds with their audience. While they have explored vocal arrangements on projects like Mordechai, they frequently return to their instrumental roots to allow for more stage movement and intimacy, describing their output not by a single genre but as Earth music.
