Moodymann, born Kenny Dixon Jr., is a cornerstone of Detroit electronic music, representing a second wave of homegrown masters.

His sound is a woozy, soul-rooted take on house and techno, defined by a commitment to analog purity; he famously eschews computers in favor of dated MPCs and SP1200s. His work is a collage of dusty vinyl grooves, jazz chords, and R&B melancholy, often interweaving samples from legends like Al Green and Camille Yarbrough with his own close-mic'd, conversational vocal delivery.
