Tame Impala

Person·Australia·since 1986·psychedelic rock/neo-psychedelia/rock

Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker.

Known for a sonic-maximalist approach, Parker writes, records, and produces the music himself in the studio, though he performs with a full ensemble live. His sound evolved from the guitar-heavy, spacey textures of early psychedelic rock into a more danceable, disco-inflected style that blends electronic production with boom bap drums and lush synths. Parker's work is characterized by a tension between an introvert's anxiety and a drive for inner serenity, often exploring themes of isolation and time. His precision as a producer allows him to craft complex, sample-like arrangements without using actual samples. Beyond his solo project, Parker has collaborated with a diverse array of artists including Lady Gaga, Justice, and Travis Scott, bridging the gap between indie psychedelia and global pop and hip hop production.
