Wilco

Formed in 1994 following the dissolution of Uncle Tupelo, Wilco has evolved from alt-country beginnings into a versatile rock collective known for blending tradition with sonic exploration.

Led by songwriter Jeff Tweedy, the group shifted from the rustic twang of their debut, A.M., toward the ambitious arrangements of Being There and the high-sheen pop of Summerteeth. They gained critical acclaim for the experimental precision of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, an album that integrated technological noise and static into classic American songwriting, a process further refined on A Ghost Is Born. Alongside long-term members like John Stirratt and Glenn Kotche, and collaborators such as Nels Cline and Jim O’Rourke, Wilco balances accessible melodies with avant-garde risks. Whether exploring the stripped-back roots of Cruel Country or the concise, textured rock of Star Wars, the band remains defined by a restless curiosity and a commitment to treating the studio as a tool for defacement and discovery.
